Venice

I remember my first trip to Venice in my junior year.
Walking through St. Mark's Square,
it was all Thomas Mann and pigeons,
and astonishingly beautiful.
Returning 45 years later,
walking to the Azerbaijan Pavilion during Biennale,
the city still magnificent in spite of aqua alta.
In the Cicchetti bar near my air bnb
where I had my morning cappuccino,
I told the bartender
it was my last day in Venice.
He broke the chocolate bar he was eating
and gave half to me.
